Accepting whatever his fate may be

  • The Nats haven't traded Chad Cordero to the Red Sox or anyone else, and they may not trade him at all, but MLB.com reports that Cordero is "realistic" about his situation. "I understand where the Nationals are coming from," he said. "They can trade me for a couple of guys who can help them out in two years." He adds that he would "love to stay in D.C.: but knows that, at the moment, that decision is out of his hands.
  • Bill Ladson's mailbag is back with questions about the Fick signing, some other potential, if unlikely, deals, and, of course, the obligatory Ryan Church questions/rants. (Best question: "It seems clear that you have a low opinion of Church, regardless of what others think, including the new manager. Do you have some clairvoyant capabilities that the rest of us don't have? Just curious.")
  • The Nationals have purchased the contract of catcher Tommy Rojas from Nashua of the independent Can-Am League. Rojas, drafted by the Yankees in 2000, hit .320 for the Pride in 2006.
  • Former Nats assistant general manager Tony Siegle, who was not tendered a new contract by the team after this season, has been hired by the Giants as a senior advisor to GM Brian Sabean.
