Maybe that outfield won't be so crowded

- New Nats outfielder Elijah Dukes is facing a new round of legal problems after another woman filed a domestic violence charge against him in Florida. Nats officials said they weren't aware of the latest charges, which stemmed from incidents that took place last month, before the Nats got Dukes from Tampa Bay. Dukes has been in a counseling program and participating in a workout program with Barry Larkin. (More details from the St. Pete Times)
- Team president Stan Kasten said he was unaware that Paul Lo Duca would be named in the Mitchell Report when the team signed the free agent catcher two days before the report's release. Kasten said the team has talked with Lo Duca since the report's release, but would offer no other details. "There are [legal and baseball] issues involved… The team has no role in that. That is probably a wise decision." Lo Duca and his agent have also remained silent on the issue.
- A "baseball official" tells MLB.com that the Nats are interested in free agent pitcher Kris Benson, who missed all of last season with the Orioles because of a rotator cuff injury. Two Nats scouts as well as assistant GM Mike Rizzo attended a Benson workout Monday in Arizona, but they had company: there were 25 scouts in attendance, according to Benson's agent.
- "I have received a lot of e-mails about the comments I made about [Brian] Schneider last week," Bill Ladson writes in his latest mailbag, referring to negative comments about the former Nats catcher he wrote last week. "As far as Schneider's leadership skills are concerned, I stand by what I said," Ladson wrote Monday. (Schneider's response to the original comments, published last week at Nats320: "When I hear him [Ladson] talk about leadership in the clubhouse--he doesn't know what is going on in the clubhouse.")
