Not-so-stunning loss

- On Friday night the Nats blew a big lead in the bottom of the ninth to lose the game. On Saturday they blew a small lead, 1-0, in the bottom of the first, and never challenged the Rockies again. While Tim Redding did have a sub-par outing (4+ innings, 5 runs, including 2 homers), it's tough to win at Coors Field—or most anyplace—when you only score one run. Nats lose to Colorado, 5-1. (Box score)
- Chad Cordero's recent pitching woes are linked to the same mechanical problem that caused him to pitch poorly early this season. "He's off line, and he's on the side of the ball, and the ball's coming back over the middle of the plate," explained Randy St. Claire.
- John Lannan will be sent down to Triple-A after Sunday's game to make room on the roster for Jason Bergmann. The Nats still plan to shut down Lannan, who has thrown a career-high 157.1 innings this season, but will call him back up when rosters expand on September 1.
- News flash from MLB.com: Alex Escobar is "more than likely out for the year" and will have an MRI on his left ankle.
