Just your everyday Bacsik win

  • With the bullpen worn out and a day-night doubleheader looming, the Nats needed starter Mike Bacsik to eat a lot of innings, regardless of how well he pitched. Good thing that Bacsik not only threw seven innings, he threw seven good innings, allowing only a pair of runs. The offense, meanwhile, found a groove, scoring three runs on four doubles in the second, while Austin Kearns and Ryan Church collected solo homers. Nats beat the Mets, 6-2. (Box score)
  • Jason Bergmann went on the 15-day DL Friday because of the hamstring he tweaked on Tuesday. Bergmann said he hopes to be able to return as soon as his 15 days are up. His roster spot will be taken by Joel Hanrahan, who will make his major league debut in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader.
  • John Lannan called the injury suffered by Chase Utley a "shame"; Utley broke his right hand when hit by a Lannan pitch in the fifth. "I was just trying to make a good pitch. I'm sorry to see that he got hurt."
  • Shawn Hill threw a bullpen session Friday, going 45 pitches without any problems. Hill is slated to make the first of four rehab starts Monday for Potomac, although Hill said he is hoping to be ready to return after only two appearances.
  • The Times speculates that the Nats will announce the Dmitri Young contract extension on Monday, an off day for the team before their next homestand begins.
