Oh no, not again

- Wouldn't it be nice to go, oh, a week or two without having to deal with another injury to a pitcher? Not this week. In the third inning last night third-base coach Tim Tolman made an ill-advised decision to wave Jason Bergmann around third on a line drive to center field; not only as Bergmann thrown out at the plate, he tweaked his left hamstring in the process. Adding insult to injury, Aaron Rowand, the center fielder who threw out Bergmann, scored the tying and winning runs off the Nats bullpen. Nats lose, 4-3. (Box score)
- Bergmann is officially listed as day-to-day but there is skepticism that he will make his next start, Sunday in New York. "I think the best thing for us to do is treat it and see how it is tomorrow," Bergmann said after the game.
- The Nats plan to decide today who to call up to start half of Saturday's day-night doubleheader, with the decision between Tim Hanrahan and John Lannan. The decision is needed today since Lannan is scheduled to start in Triple-A tomorrow and would thus be unavailable for the weekend. Depending on Bergmann's injury, though, both may be needed.
- Dmitri Young is interested in a contract extension to stay with the Nats, but only at the right price.
- Shawn Hill will start a minor league rehab program after having a good throwing session Monday throwing BP for Potomac. That rehab could put Hill on track for a return to the Nats August 9, when the team is in San Francisco.
- Manny Acta has been "expecting more" from Ryan Church this season. "I think he started very well and then he has tailed off," Acta said, citing his low home run and RBI numbers. "I think he knows he's got to do better than that."
- Ross Detwiler had a good second start Tuesday, allowing one hit and one walk in three scoreless innings in rookie league play. Detwiler will make one more start there before being promoted to Potomac.
