- Did you give up on the Nats when they fell behind the Tigers 9-1 in the fifth? It's okay to admit it: after all, the Tigers are one of the best teams in the American League and big offensive outbursts have not been the norm for the Nats. But the Nats did rally, getting four in the sixth and three in the ninth with the tying run in scoring position with no outs—only to have Todd Jones finally close the door on former Tiger Dmitri Young and the Nats. "These guys, they haven't rolled over once yet," said Manny Acta. Still, Nats lose, 9-8. (Box score)
- Brandon Watson's Triple-A hitting streak ended at 43 games last night with an 0-for-5 performance at Rochester. "I'm going to get to 40 again, so don't forget about me," he said after the game.
- While Dmitri Young has little to say about his former team, his former manager spoke well of him. "The best thing that could've ever happened to him was when we released him. I told him that today," said Jim Leyland.
- Another former Tiger, Nook Logan, is still struggling at the plate for the Nats. "I feel comfortable up there," said Logan, who went hitless last night. I just drew one of the best guys [Tigers starter Mike Maroth]. If I had my pick, it wouldn't have been him."
- The Nats reinstated Mike O'Connor from the 60-day DL and optioned him to Double-A Harrisburg, where he had already been rehabbing. "We are going to let him go out there and pitch and we're going to see where he fits," said Acta. The team made room for O'Connor on the 40-man roster by moving Ryan Wagner to the 60-day DL.
- Robert Fick took advantage of regular playing time in interleague games to boost his batting average to .217 as of last night. However, he remains concerned about the deteriorating health of his mother, who is suffering from lung cancer.
