This Is Mike Rizzo’s Team Now; Nats Make Cuts as Opening Day Approaches

The Washington Nationals today made a series of moves to trim the roster in preparation for coming north for Opening Day.
The Nats optioned Roger Bernadina, Collin Balester and Ross Detwiler to Triple-A Syracuse and re-assigned Brian Bixler to minor league camp.
In addition, they placed reliever Henry Rodriguez on the 15-day disabled list and starter Chien-Ming Wang and reliever Elvin Ramirez on Continue reading

Real Spring Training Battles Heating Up

The Washington Nationals have made another round of roster cuts, according to multiple reports trickling out of Viera.  News today that RHRP Cole Kimball, 1B Chris Marrero and CF Corey Brown were all sent over to the minor league side should not come as a shock to anyone that follows this team.

Maxwell DFA’d — and Guess the Nationals’ Outfielder!

While fans wait on word about Adam Dunn, the Washington Nationals made a couple of decisions this week.

Right handed reliever Tyler Walker has been unconditionally released.  Tyler went on the DL in June and then had season-ending surgery on his shoulder.  Walker went 1-0 with a 3.57 ERA in 35.1 innings with eight walks and 30 Ks.

The Nationals declined a club option for Continue reading

Roster Construction for 2011: Who Stays and Who Goes?

The other day, Bill Ladson at MLB.com took a look at the Washington Nationals current roster and gave an educated guess as to which of those players would stay or go for 2011.  Since I’ve been working on a piece like that myself, I thought I’d roll it out there and offer my opinion for debate.
ABSOLUTE KEEPERS
Ryan Zimmerman, 3B:  Get it out of the way.  The Face isn’t going anywhere, but his Continue reading
