Bad Inning Dooms Nats in 4-2 Loss to Tigers

Washington Nationals right-handed veteran Jason Marquis continued his solid spring on Monday, pitching five good innings against the Detroit Tigers in an eventual 4-2 loss in windy conditions at Space Coast Stadium.
Marquis gave up his first earned run of the spring, but was otherwise effective, allowing just three hits and two walks in the five innings.  Seven of his fifteen outs came on the Continue reading

Marquis and Espinosa Lead Nationals Over Marlins, 8-4

If the Washington Nationals are going to pick up wins over their final record in 2010, it’s going to come from the progression of the starting pitching, which was near the bottom of all statistical categories in a campaign where they won 69 games.
So far this spring, the starters are getting the job done, and today in Jupiter, FL Jason Marquis added to the list of impressive outings by the Continue reading

GAME 158 REVIEW: "SIGN ADAM DUNN!"

THE RESULT:  It became a constant refrain, whether or not Adam Dunn was actually at bat Tuesday night or not.  Between innings.  On a put out at first base.  On random occasions.  But especially when the Nationals potential free agent first baseman came to bat.
"Sign Adam Dunn!"
The chants were never louder than in the ninth inning, when he came to the plate to lead off in a 1-1 tie.
"Sign Adam Continue reading

GAME 147 REVIEW: Marquis Can’t Get Out of First, Phils Pound Nats 9-1

THE RESULT:  So much for counting on Jason Marquis.
All the questions of his early-season struggles returned Friday night, as the veteran right-hander retired just one batter in the first inning and the Philadelphia Phillies cruised to a 9-1 win over the Washington Nationals, before 45,338 Phillies Phans at Citizen’s Bank Park.
The Nats were actually up 1-0 by the time Marquis took the hill, Continue reading

GAME 142 REVIEW: Nats Cannot Beat Sanchez; Fall to Marlins 4-1; 9/11 Heroes Day

Post by Cheryl Nichols
"“The story of the day was Sanchez.”–Nationals Manager Jim Riggleman.
Today might have been the best weather for baseball in the district all summer. Simply a gorgeous early fall day.  Unfortunately, only 17, 941 got to experience it.

The Washington National lost another game to the  Florida Marlins.  Anibal Sanchez is undefeated against the Nationals.  In 13 career Continue reading

GAME 132 REVIEW: Zim, Dunn Power Nats to Win in Soggy Miami

THE RESULT:  It took a near three-hour rain delay to get this one started.  And once it was, both teams sloshed around an outfield that was not fit for Major League play.
But the Nats are happy they waited and got this one in.
Ryan Zimmerman clubbed a "home run hitter’s" blast off the facing of the upper deck in left center field, and Adam Dunn hit his second home run in three games, as the Continue reading

GAME 127 REVIEW: Marquis Good; Offense Absent in 4-0 Loss to Cubs

THE RESULT:  Despite seven strong innings from their starter, the Washington Nationals offense could provide no support whatsoever and they were shut out by Ryan Dempster and the Chicago Cubs 4-0, before 18,344 at Nationals Park.
The loss drops the Nats to 53-74 with 35 games Continue reading
