Random Thoughts While Waiting for Morgan’s Suspension Hearing Results

BULLET-POINT STYLE!
If I told you you the Nats could acquire a fast center fielder capable of highight-reel catches, 30 steal speed and hit .308/.359/.387, would you take it?  What if I told you those are Nyjer Morgan’s lifetime numbers…batting against right-handed pitchers?  That’s why it’s not so obvious what the Nats should do about Morgan.  For all the headache he’s caused this season, when Continue reading

Random Thoughts on Off-Day Thursday

BULLET-POINT STYLE!
Reading a lot of "Nats are going to turn into the Padres" next year in light of the possibility of not re-signing Adam Dunn.  C’mon.  I know when Boswell writes something it’s written in granite, but let’s think about this for a minute.  Boswell postulates on the Nats current "Theory of Baseball"
When the Nats look at their lineup of the future, they see golden gloves or Continue reading

Nyjer Morgan Doesn’t Get It

Courtesy of Bill Ladson at MLB.com, here were Nyjer Morgan’s comments this afternoon upon learing about his eight-game suspension for "three separate incidents" in the past week, including clipping St. Louis Cardinals catcher Bryan Anderson instead of touching home plate, exchanging expetlives with fans in Miami after bowling over Florida Marlins catcher Brett Hayes — ending his season with a Continue reading

Morgan Suspended Eight Games for "Three Separate Incidents"

According to multiple sources, Washington Nationals outfielder Nyjer Morgan has been suspended eight games for his role in "three separate incidents" in the past week:  initiating contact with St. Louis Cardinals catcher Bryan Anderson, inappropriate comments made to Florida Marlins fans on Tuesday night after he bowled into catcher Brett Hayes, and Wednesday night’s brawl and aftermath.
Morgan Continue reading

Random Thoughts for Friday Mid-Day

BULLET-POINT STYLE!

Congratulations to 1B Tyler Moore and OF Randolph Oduber for winning MVP honors in their respective leagues.  Moore won the Carolina League MVP, finishing first in that league in homers, RBIs, doubles and extra-base hits.  Moore’s 75 XBHs were second in all of minor league baseball.  Oduber won th Gulf Coast League MVP.  He led that league in average (.366), slugging (.569)  Continue reading

Random Thoughts for Off-Day Thursday

BULLET-POINT STYLE!It amazes me how many people are defending Nyjer Morgan for his actions in last night’s brawl.  I understand you want your players to keep playing despite being down 11 runs, but stealing bases really isn’t about "winning".  Stealing a base in that situation gives you about one-hundredth of a percent increase to your chance of winning.  Morgan stealing second, then third, was Continue reading

GAME 134 REVIEW: Olsen Hammered, Morgan Incites Brawl

I’m going to suspend my regular recap this evening because the game wasn’t much of a game.  Scott Olsen was hammered in less than two innings, giving up nine earned runs on eight hits and two walks.  Craig Stammen came in and wasn’t much better, going 3 1/3 innings and gave up six earned runs on five hits and two walks.
The game was over before it started.
The bigger story was Nyjer Morgan.
After Continue reading

Random Thoughts on Wednesday Morning

BULLET-POINT STYLE!Brian Oliver, one of the hardest working bloggers in the Natosphere, is hanging up his spikes.  It’s devastating news to me, because I can’t write anything about the minor leagues without having his "Big Board" open to consult all the minor league rosters in one place.  Seriously though, Brian was one of the originals to write about the team, and was one of the five Continue reading

GAME 133 REVIEW: A Tale of Two Plays at the Plate

THE RESULT:  Jordan Zimmermann made a dominant six inning start for the Washington Nationals, but the Florida Marlins’ Anibal Sanchez was almost as good.  Neither pitcher figured in the decision, which came in the 10th inning, when Hanley Ramirez got underneath the tag of Ivan Rodriguez to steal a 1-0 win for the Marlins, before 18,506 in Sun Life Stadium.
Zimmermann was flat dealing.  He allowed Continue reading

Random Thoughts for a Mid-Day Monday

BULLET-POINT STYLE!

Nyjer Morgan’s hearing on his seven-game suspension for the fan incident in Philly is Sept. 7.  Could he be facing another one for the flipper incident Saturday night?  With all the excitement over the entire weekend (Storen plunking Holliday Thursday night, Morgan running into Anderson Saturday, Storen throwing behind Holliday Sunday), maybe Tony LaRussa makes a call to the Continue reading
