GAME 142 REVIEW: Nats Cannot Beat Sanchez; Fall to Marlins 4-1; 9/11 Heroes Day

Post by Cheryl Nichols
"“The story of the day was Sanchez.”–Nationals Manager Jim Riggleman.
Today might have been the best weather for baseball in the district all summer. Simply a gorgeous early fall day.  Unfortunately, only 17, 941 got to experience it.

The Washington National lost another game to the  Florida Marlins.  Anibal Sanchez is undefeated against the Nationals.  In 13 career Continue reading

Random Thoughts on Tuesday Morning

BULLET-POINT STYLE!Can’t get enough Danny Espinosa?  Neither can we.  Check out yesterday’s gamer and Cheryl’s profile of the Nats latest sparkplug, both chock full of pictures of the switch-hitting middle infielder.
Say what you will about Willie Harris’ lack of production this season, but the man still plays all out, and yesterday’s run-in with the out-of-town scoreboard in right field was no Continue reading

GAME 138 REVIEW: Espinosa’s "Career" Day Lifts Nats Over Mets 13-3

THE RESULT:  Danny Espinosa’s Major League career is now five games old.  As if his minor league stats (22 homers, 25 stolen bases in 2010) weren’t enough to raise Nationals’ fans expectations for the 23-year old, his performance Sunday may have driven them sky high.

Espinosa went 4-for-5 with two home runs — including a grand slam off the facing of the upper deck in right field — with a Continue reading

Random Thoughts from a Hotel Room in Pittsburgh on a Saturday Afternoon

BULLET-POINT STYLE!Dang, it’s cold in Pittsburgh.  Definitely sweatshirts and jeans weather.

First guy we see getting out of the parking garage was wearing a Penguins windbreaker and Steelers cap.  Naturally.

The Nationals plan to recall Yuneski Maya, Collin Balester and Ross Detwiler on Monday, according to multiple reports.  You have to figure at this point Maya will slide right into Scott Continue reading

GAME 135 REVIEW: Espinosa Homers in Loss to Bucs

THE RESULT:  The rest of the 2010 season for the Washington Nationals is going to be about finding parts that will be able to contribute at the major league level next season.  Danny Espinosa is ceratinly off to a good start.
But despite Espinosa going 2-for-4 with his first major league home run and an RBI double, the Nats fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5, before 19,734 at PNC Park.
The loss Continue reading

Random Thoughts for Off-Day Thursday

BULLET-POINT STYLE!It amazes me how many people are defending Nyjer Morgan for his actions in last night’s brawl.  I understand you want your players to keep playing despite being down 11 runs, but stealing bases really isn’t about "winning".  Stealing a base in that situation gives you about one-hundredth of a percent increase to your chance of winning.  Morgan stealing second, then third, was Continue reading

Nationals Recall Ramos, Balester; Select Espinosa from Minors

UPDATE (3:34 pm):  Balester will have to wait until the weekend.  He had just been optioned last Thursday and has to spend 10 days in the minors before recall, barring injury.

The Washington Nationals will call up C Wilson Ramos and P Collin Balester, plus select the contract of INF Danny Espinosa from the minor leagues.  The team expects the players will be active for tonight’s game in Continue reading

Random Thoughts on Wednesday Morning

BULLET-POINT STYLE!Brian Oliver, one of the hardest working bloggers in the Natosphere, is hanging up his spikes.  It’s devastating news to me, because I can’t write anything about the minor leagues without having his "Big Board" open to consult all the minor league rosters in one place.  Seriously though, Brian was one of the originals to write about the team, and was one of the five Continue reading

Random Thoughts for a Mid-Day Monday

BULLET-POINT STYLE!

Nyjer Morgan’s hearing on his seven-game suspension for the fan incident in Philly is Sept. 7.  Could he be facing another one for the flipper incident Saturday night?  With all the excitement over the entire weekend (Storen plunking Holliday Thursday night, Morgan running into Anderson Saturday, Storen throwing behind Holliday Sunday), maybe Tony LaRussa makes a call to the Continue reading
